The first order of business when beginning the
scrapbooking process is choosing the right materials to get your desired effect. Acid-free glues,
paper,
charms, and
button brads are important to preserve photos and to ensure your page will not fade from light exposure.
Once you have selected the right materials, you can begin the creative process. Creating a theme on each page is a great way to add continuity and interest to your
scrapbook. Try to organize your pictures in chronological order or by events. For example, put all Christmas pictures from over the years on one or two pages, and use red and green stickers,
background paper, and decorations to tie the pictures to the
scrapbook.
Remember that pictures don't have to be the only focus of a good scrapbook page. Add in your favorite
stickers and quotes to go with the themes of the photos on the page, or the theme of your whole book. Use special scissors, called paper edgers, for cutting out
stickers and pictures with an artistic touch.
The best part about
scrapbooking is that you do not have to spend a lot of money to create a great work of art. Many things that you already have around your house can be incorporated into your
scrapbook--just be creative!
